Here's what you'll need for this tutorial:
Paint Shop Pro: get a trial version from Corel Corporation.
I'm using version 7 but this tutorial is compatible with version 6 as well.
Ulead's Art Texture- a free plugin you can download HERE
Filter Factory Gallery A- which you can download HERE (You'll
need to convert these filters for use with PSP). There is a link on the filter page to download the Plugin Commander which will convert the plugins.
You can also use Greg's Factory Output Vol II but his site is no longer available so I don't have a download link for this filter.
You'll need my zip file- download HERE.
The zip file contains: My Fancy Corners Mask, this is a .msk file, place in your mask folder
I am providing the Blue Flowers image to work with if you don't have an image, however, this is my original photograph and
may not be used for any other purpose other than this tutorial.
I've also included the Gold Filigree tube I made for the corners on the frame. The tube is compatible with PSP 7 and 6. Place
this in your tube folder.
**This tutorial assumes you have a basic understanding of PSP and the location of it's tools and effects**
Let's get started:
1. Let's make our gold glitter tile first. Open a new image, 200x200 and flood fill with any color. Open Ulead Effects, Art Texture Plugin.
2. Click on the EDIT button, choose PALETTE-5, then hit the OK button.
3. For the pattern templates, use the scroll bar (I have this outlined in black) to scroll to the last patterns.
Click on the last pattern which is pattern #19. Click on each pattern following the direction of the arrow, then repeat. You'll
notice this will be changing the pattern samples at the top.
4. Choose the pattern I have highlighted here. Then click the OK button. This is a seamless tile.
5. Save your glitter pattern to your hard drive and minimize it for now.
6. Open the Blue Flowers image I provided or any other image you'd like to use. Make a duplicate copy and minimize one. Select
a complimentary color from your image and set it as your background color. I used #7AA6E3 for this image. Right click to flood fill directly over your image with this color.
7. Go to MASKS; LOAD FROM DISK; and choose my "Fancy Corners_qc" mask. Then, MASKS; DELETE; and yes, merge with this layer.
8. Take your magic wand Tolerance and Feather both set at 0, click in the center opening, then go to SELECTIONS; MODIFY; EXPAND BY 2. Add a new layer.
9. Switch to your duplicate copy and go to EDIT; COPY. Go back to your mask image and choose EDIT; PASTE; INTO SELECTION.
Keep selected! Go to SELECTIONS; FLOAT and apply a cutout with these settings:
Vertical and Horizontal both at 4
Opacity= 76
Blur= 13
Shadow color= black
Repeat this cutout but change the Vertical and Horizontal settings to -4. Keep selected.
10. Go to SELECTIONS; INVERT. Change your foreground color to your gold glitter pattern and flood fill. Apply the Pool
Shadow from either Greg's Factory Output Vol II filters or Filter Factory Gallery A. These are the settings to use:
11. Do not deselect! Drag this layer to the bottom of the layer palette. Highlight layer 1, grab your magic wand and click on the
colored area of your frame. Then go to SELECTIONS; INVERT. Apply a drop shadow with these settings:
Vertical and Horizontal= 2
Opacity= 76
Blur= 6.2
Shadow color= black
SELECTIONS, SELECT NONE.
12. Make sure your complimentary color is your background color. Add a Symmetric border of 10.
13. Add a new layer and flood fill with the same color. Load the Fancy Corners_qc mask again. MASKS; DELETE and merge with the current
layer.
14. Apply the pool shadow filter, using the same settings as before. Apply a drop shadow; using the same settings you used last. Repeat
the drop shadow but change the Vertical and Horizontal settings to -2.
15. Change your background color to a color that's not in your image (this will make it easier to select the border later). Add
a symmetric border of 5. Use your magic wand to select the border and flood fill with your gold pattern. Change your background
color back to your complimentary color. Add a symmetric border of 25. Select the border with your magic wand.
16. Next, go to EFFECTS; REFLECTION EFFECTS; KALEIDOSCOPE with the following settings:
17. Apply a Gaussian Blur with a radius of 7.00. Then, EFFECTS; NOISE; ADD 10 % Uniform. With this area still selected apply a cutout with
these settings:
Vertical and Horizontal both set at 1
Opacity= 91
Blur= 2.5
Shadow color= Black
Repeat the cutout, changing the Vertical and Horizontal settings to -1.
18. Add a symmetric border of 5, select it with your magic wand and flood fill with your gold glitter pattern. SELECTIONS; SELECT NONE.
19. Add a new layer. Select my Gold Filigree tube. Place it in the center of your image for now. Go to IMAGE; ROTATE; To the Left by 45°. (Make sure "All Layers" is not checked)! EFFECTS;
SHARPEN. Then apply a drop shadow with these settings:
Vertical and Horizontal both at 2
Opacity= 76
Blur= 6.2
Shadow color= black
Place this in the upper left hand corner (see the finished example). Right click on this layer in the layer palette; DUPLICATE, then go to IMAGE;
MIRROR. Right click on this layer, DUPLICATE; then IMAGE; FLIP. Right click, DUPLICATE then IMAGE; MIRROR.
20. Your last step is to merge your layers. Here's a couple more examples I did. When I flood filled with the gold glitter, I colorized it
with these settings: Hue and Saturation both set at 0 to make it silver glitter.
I hope you've enjoyed this tutorial. Please email me if you have any questions or problems with this tutorial :)
